Garden Fencing Contractors in Chennai

Boundary, privacy and bed fencing in wood, WPC, metal, bamboo, stone and living hedges, built for Chennai weather.

Garden fencing contractors in Chennai need to build fences that look good on day one and still stand firm after years of sun, salty air and heavy monsoon rain. Win Landscape has designed and built gardens across Chennai since 2002, and fencing is part of how we finish a landscape: marking boundaries, protecting beds, adding privacy and keeping children and pets safe.

This page explains the types of garden fencing we install, the materials we work with, how we deal with rust, termites and the monsoon, and what our installation and upkeep process looks like. If you are planning a larger outdoor project, fencing usually fits alongside paving, walkways and seating walls handled by our hardscape contractors in Chennai.

Boundary fencing vs bed fencing

The first question we ask is what the fence needs to do. Garden fences in Chennai homes and properties usually fall into two groups.

Boundary and privacy fencing

Boundary fences run along the edge of a plot, a side setback or a shared wall. They are often taller, need strong foundations, and may need to block views from the road or neighbouring buildings. Here we focus on structural strength, wind resistance and privacy. Many clients combine a solid lower section with a screen or planting above.

Bed, edging and internal fencing

Inside the garden, low fences separate lawns from flower beds, protect a kitchen garden from pets, frame a play area or guide people along a path. These are lighter, more decorative and usually under one metre high. The aim is a neat, defined look rather than a barrier.

Garden fencing materials we install in Chennai

Each material has a different look, lifespan and care routine. We recommend options after seeing your site, your house style and how close you are to the coast.

  • Wood and WPC (wood plastic composite): Natural timber looks warm but needs treatment and periodic coating in our humid climate. WPC gives a similar look with lower upkeep and better resistance to moisture and termites.
  • MS and GI metal: Mild steel fences are strong and can be fabricated to any design, but need proper primer and paint to resist rust. Galvanised iron (GI) has a zinc coating that offers better corrosion resistance, which helps in coastal areas.
  • Bamboo screens: Light, natural and quick to install, bamboo works well for privacy screens and garden partitions. Treated bamboo lasts longer, though it will need replacement over time.
  • Stone and brick: Low walls in natural stone, exposed brick or plastered masonry give a permanent, solid boundary and can double as seating or planter edges.
  • Living hedge fences: Hedges of plants such as hibiscus, duranta, bamboo or other dense shrubs create a soft, green boundary. They take time to fill in but improve with age. Our guide to privacy plants for Chennai homes lists suitable species.

Many of our projects mix materials, for example a low brick plinth with metal panels above, or a WPC screen backed by a hedge that slowly grows to soften it.

Built for rust, termites and the monsoon

Chennai is hard on fences. Here is how we deal with the main risks.

Rust and salty air

Near ECR, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur and other coastal areas, salt in the air speeds up corrosion. For metal fences we prefer GI or properly treated MS with a zinc-rich primer and a durable top coat. We avoid joints that trap water, seal welded areas and use stainless or coated fixings.

Termites and moisture

Untreated timber in contact with damp soil attracts termites. We keep wooden or bamboo members off the ground using concrete or metal footings, use treated material, and recommend WPC where termite risk is high.

Monsoon rain and wind

The northeast monsoon from October to December brings heavy rain and gusty winds, especially during cyclonic weather. Posts need adequate depth and concrete footings, and tall solid panels need gaps or bracing so that wind does not push them over. We also make sure fences do not block natural drainage paths, which can cause water to pool along the boundary. The hardscape elements of a garden, including fences, should always be planned together with drainage.

Gates and access

A fence is only as useful as its gate. We design pedestrian gates, side gates for service access and wider gates for garden equipment where needed. Gates are matched to the fence material, hung on strong hinges, fitted with latches that are easy to use, and set so that they swing clear of paving and planting. For larger properties, we can plan separate access for gardeners and maintenance teams.

Pet and child safety

Families often ask for a fence that keeps toddlers away from a pond or keeps a dog out of the flower beds. For these cases we pay attention to:

  • Gaps between pickets or bars small enough that children and small pets cannot squeeze through.
  • No horizontal rails that act as a ladder for climbing children.
  • Smooth edges and capped posts with no sharp points.
  • Self-closing latches on gates near water features or pools.
  • Non-toxic plants in hedge fences where pets spend time.

Our garden fencing installation process

  1. Free site visit: We walk the boundary or garden, take measurements, check levels, soil and drainage, and discuss what you want the fence to do.
  2. Design and material choice: We propose a design, height, material and gate positions, with notes on upkeep for each option.
  3. Marking and setting out: Lines and post positions are marked, and we check for underground pipes, cables and tree roots.
  4. Footings and posts: Post holes are dug and set in concrete or on footings suited to the material, then left to cure.
  5. Panels, rails and gates: Panels or rails are fixed, gates are hung and aligned, and fixings are checked.
  6. Finishing and planting: Coatings, sealants or stains are applied, and any hedge or climber planting is completed.
  7. Handover: We explain care requirements and remove all construction debris.

Upkeep for your garden fence

Every fence needs some care. Metal fences benefit from a check for rust spots and touch-up painting, particularly after the monsoon. Timber needs periodic re-coating, while WPC usually needs only washing. Bamboo should be checked for splits and loose ties. Hedge fences need regular trimming, feeding and watering in summer to stay dense. Our garden maintenance services in Chennai can include fence and hedge care as part of a routine plan.

What affects the cost of garden fencing

We do not publish fixed rates because each site is different. Cost depends on the fence length and height, the material, the type of footing, the number and size of gates, the design detail, site access and any planting. After a free site visit we share a clear quote for the agreed scope. To arrange a visit, get a free quote or call +91 94448 64732.

Why choose Win Landscape for garden fencing

Because we design complete landscapes, we see a fence as part of the whole garden, not a separate job. We consider sightlines, planting, paving, lighting and drainage together, so the fence fits naturally. Founded by Edwin Raj and based in Nungambakkam, we work with homes, villas, apartments, offices and commercial sites across Chennai. Fencing pairs well with other features such as a garden pergola installation in Chennai or a new garden layout, and you can see examples of our work on our projects page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which fencing material is best for coastal Chennai?

Near the sea, galvanised iron or well-coated metal, WPC, stone or brick and salt-tolerant hedges usually last longer than untreated mild steel or timber. We recommend options after a site visit.

Can you make a fence safe for children and pets?

Yes. We keep gaps small, avoid climbable rails, cap posts, use self-closing latches near water and choose non-toxic hedge plants.

How much do garden fencing contractors in Chennai charge?

Cost depends on fence length, height, material, footings, gates and site access. We do not quote fixed prices; we offer a free site visit and share a clear quote afterwards.

How do I maintain my garden fence?

Check metal for rust and touch up paint after the monsoon, re-coat timber periodically, wash WPC, and trim and feed hedges regularly. We can include this in a maintenance plan.
